Baby's Breath

An image-inspired haiku

Gentle spray of white

As sweet as baby’s first breath

Bouquet’s afterthought

I’m finding myself more drawn to writing haiku these days (Curse you

Weirdo Poetry
). They won’t replace my stories, but you may see more of them.

I created the image above the haiku a few days before I decided to write the haiku. My mind wandered to the interesting choice to name this flower after a baby’s breath. Maybe it was because it seems so delicate? If anyone reading this knows the reason, please provide it in the comments.

As I was writing and rewriting the haiku, I created a few more images to go with the second and third lines.

I’m feeling so inspired by the interaction between my visual and written art. It’s added even more joy to my writing. I hope you find joy in it too!

Thoroughly enjoying this new way you have found of expressing yourself. Beautiful poetry, beautiful pictures 🥰

I love your haiku! I enjoy how the second line conjures the image of the flower baby's breath while being about something else on the surface. I also like the contrast between something being sweet and tender and something being an afterthought. What a beautiful, thoughtfully-constructed poem!

I'm frequently known as a bad influence on others! Lol
