Rhea had heard of bats in the belfry, but butterflies in the attic? What would her parents say if they could see her insanity now?
Of course, she was the envy of all her friends. After she’d learned that so many butterfly species were endangered, she’d had to step up. So she’d converted her attic and over the winter played host to hundreds of cocoons. She’d even held cocoon parties at which she and her posse had drunk wine and planned expanding her rescue efforts. She hadn’t thought too much about what would happen when the cocoons started to open. Right now, a kaleidoscope of butterflies fluttered everywhere.
Fortunately, Rhea’s attic had a window. Unfortunately, it was boarded up. With nothing else for it, she took a sledgehammer to it, creating an egress for her butterfly brood. As she proudly watched them claim their freedom, she started planning a new window and next winter’s kaleidoscope of cocoons.
This fun story grew from the words butterfly, attic, and envy.
What a wonderful story! A kaleidoscope of butterflies. What could be more beautiful 🦋
I love the vivid image of butterflies streaming outside through the new portal created by smashing the boards!
