Lainey and this cabin had grown old together, shared endless summers, and golden autumn leaves..
She and the faded wooden structure had lived well.
Lainey looked once more through the multi-paned window at the tree that had grown with them, smiled, sighed with contentment, and closed her eyes at last.
Thank you to my dear friend, Laura Gannon who snapped this photo (and another: story forthcoming), providing me with a wonder prompt! I always think old wood, whether as part of a building’s structure or well-worn furniture, has seen so much. If only it could talk, what tales we would hear!
Beautiful.
This story captures perfectly how I felt when I snapped the photo. Thank you for putting my thoughts into words so beautifully ❤
