Honesty wasn’t Eman’s strong suit. It would take a gale-strength wind to clear the deceit gathered through many years of a long, unhappy marriage. That or dynamite. Sausan sighed as she stood in the front hallway, looking in at a lifetime of memories.
Eman thought himself a lion. Really, he was just lyin’. The women he had cheated on her with hadn’t been anything special. They’d just been willing. He thought she didn’t know, but he wasn’t as accomplished a liar as he had thought.
It had taken a long time, but Sausan had finally built enough self esteem to say enough. It turned out she was a better liar than Eman. Right now, he was ostensibly off on a hunting weekend. She knew he was with his latest squeeze. Sausan was supposed to be having a girl’s weekend, here at home. She glanced over her shoulder at the moving truck, then back into the empty house. Maybe she’d leave the windows open and let the wind blow.
I love the image evoked by this story’s title. The story I wrote to go with it works on several levels for me. Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away,” which tells a much bigger story was my inspiration.
Let the Wind Blow
Good for her!! It's good to be forgiving and patient but one day it's time to shake the dust off our feet and get moving. One of my favourite songs is I Believe I Can Fly... "I believe I can soar, see me running through that open door".
Dascha, I'm catching up on Substack reading. 😁 This powerful story captures what many brave women have done. Wow!
