“Lay down your weapon, Ranger.” Shandra smelled the recruit’s fear, as would their prey. “It won’t buy safety here.”
The greenling, ignorant of the dangers before her, sneered at her alien partner. “Really? You got something better?”
Shandra extended claws, ripping the blaster from her hand. “A lifetime of experience.”
I pulled an old one out of the vault for today’s story. This was originally published on The Friday Fix. Justin Deming of Micro 2 Go (currently on hiatus, or I’d provide the link) had given a prompt to peruse five Wikipedia articles and write a story based on one of them. I found one on an old science fiction show I’d never heard of—The Adventures of Galaxy Rangers—and this story was born.
Youth and bravado versus age and experience. They each have their place but it's good to remember where you are on the battlefield 😉
Was a part of the Friday Fix. I had a lot fun too. Experience is like common sense. It will take us very far and also help to save lives. Mostly, our own.
