As he grew into early adulthood, he turned his eyes to the billions of lights brilliantly illuminating the dark night sky.
Evanescent light, each life burned so briefly within a star’s timescale. Sol sighed, sending up a solar flare, and wondered if he would ever shine down on mortal beings.
This story sprang from one of Laura’s contemplations. Those of you who read regularly know that many of my stories are, in one way or another, prompted by her thoughts. In this case, she had been thinking about how what we observe in the night sky today happened so very long ago, and in that context, about the enormity of the timescale of the universe. Naturally, I inverted this, and wrote it from the viewpoint of a star—in this case, our own.
Yes! That forever timeline. What is happening right now in our universe and how many generations will it be before we know? I find it fascinating to think about because I think it reflects our lives. What are we doing right now, what decisions are we making, and how many years will it be before we understand the ripples we created? It's special to me in such a heartfelt way to see how you understand the wanderings of my mind and the neat stories you turn them into! 💕
