Retreat

When Marnie had rented the lighthouse for the summer, she never thought she’d spend her holiday in a cave.

“A lighthouse?” Davie had scoffed. “How is that a retreat from the world?”

He’d dared her to really walk away from civilization. What he hadn’t realized was that she’d like it.

I recently listened to the audiobook of to The Stranger in the Woods, the true story of Christopher Knight, a man who walked into the woods at age twenty, and didn’t return to civilization for twenty-seven years. Retreat sprang from my thoughts around the biography. I highly recommend it (the book, not living in the woods, although…)
