“You got a package for me?” Kirk smiled awkwardly at Linda. They hadn’t spoken since he had broken up with her a few months back to date Kelly. Maybe she was over it.
“Why would I have a package for you?” Linda glared at Kirk over the gulf opening up across the threshold he was now forbidden to cross.
Nope. Not over it. Not even close. Kirk’s smile wavered. He thought about the pizza he’d left on the counter. He just wanted to get back to his own kitchen and eat. “Matt said Amazon had delivered it here by mistake.”
Linda laughed at him. Actually laughed! “Matt said you’d fall for it.”
What was she…Kirk turned tail and ran. He’d only dated Linda for a year and a half. Matt had been best friends with her since grade school. Kirk was going to kill his brother. He stormed into the kitchen. Seeing the empty counter, he continued on through the also empty living room to Matt’s bedroom.
He tried the doorknob. Locked, as he’d expected. He pounded on the door. “Open it.”
Matt’s laughter came through the door, followed by words mangled by a mouthful of Kirk’s pizza, which Matt was clearly eating. “I told you, I’d get even with you for hurting my best friend.” After a pause during which he must have swallowed the pizza, Matt added, “Thanks for the pizza, bro. By the way, I sent Kelly a picture of you with Betty. I thought she’d like to know where you were when you stood her up last night.”
I crafted this story around the randomly generated dialogue, “You got a package for me?” I immediately thought of how awkward it would be to have to face someone you had dumped recently. The tale grew from there.
Sounds like he got what he deserved, with how it appears he treated the people in his life, including Kelly. Feels like a happy ending 😁
Awkward! But sounds like he deserved it 🤣
