Ella was a spoiled cat. No question. Fiona loved her to distraction. In fact, Walt was pretty sure she loved the feline more than him. She certainly received more cuddles and kisses than he did.
But tonight’s dinner cemented that feeling. Fiona had invited Walt for Thanksgiving. She’d truly seemed happy to see him, though Ella still demanded much of her attention. But he watched with a horrified fascination as Fiona laid out a separate table for the cat, complete with a full Thanksgiving dinner.
Part of Walt said run. But a much larger part realized he loved Fiona. And, strangely enough, the cat as well. Making an instantaneous decision, he bent down next to Ella’s miniature table and gave her a scratch behind her ears. Then he picked up a piece of turkey and pulled it apart and began feeding her.
As Fiona knelt beside him, her head contentedly resting on his shoulder, Walt knew he’d cracked the code. He kissed the top of her head, then said, “I’m thankful today for the two lovely ladies in my life.”
Fiona raised her head and kissed him soundly. “I’m thankful for a man who loves cats. Come on, let’s eat before our own dinner goes cold. Ella can finish on her own.”
This story was entirely prompted by the image. I prompted Midjourney (partly) with the words Thanksgiving cat. Many odd images came up. This one, after many iterations, was the best. Hope you enjoyed where it took me.
Happy American Thanksgiving!
Walt is a very smart man, nice story and I love the image.
I do watch how people treat animals as a clue to how kind they really are or aren’t.
