Matt whooped as he rode his dragon across a sky of falling dice. And it wasn’t just any dragon, it was a Christmas dragon. His light brown hair flew behind him in the wind as the dragon raced toward fulfilment of their quest. This was a dream come true. It occurred to him that perhaps it really was a dream, but he didn’t care. This was the most fun he’d had in years.
Their quest was simple—rescue his players from the horror of playing for the most boring dungeon master on the continent. Easy, right? Except that Jaxom was smart, despite being boring. And he knew Matt was coming.
But Matt was smarter and more experienced. And he had a few tricks up his sleeve. He called up half a dozen NPCs to join him. As they popped into existence beside him, he grinned. And everyone knew that when the dragon master smiled, it was already too late.
Matt spotted his prey below. He turned to his companions, with a look that promised mayhem. “How do you want to do this?”
This Christmas story is entirely about my D&D fandom. Matt Mercer is the ultimate dungeon master. He runs the campaigns on Critical Role, which airs on both Twitch TV and YouTube on Thursday nights.
I may be a little obsessed. Most of the t-shirts and hoodies I wear are Critical Role merchandise. Fans like me are called Critters—seriously.
The final line of this story is guaranteed to make all Critters (and D&D enthusiasts in general) smile. #gamersgetit
