The poll results are in with overwhelming support for changing this newsletter’s name from Fiction in 50 to Eclectic Ink. Thank you to all who voted! And thank you to everyone who has supported my Substack journey. As of August 22, 2022, I will have been publishing on this platform for two years! It’s hard to believe it’s been that long.
I still love the original name, but it no longer reflects what I’m writing. When I started, I had envisioned writing mostly fifty-word stories with a few longer stories thrown in. For a time, that’s what I did. But, over the past two years, I’ve largely moved to writing more microfiction and flash.
What hasn’t changed is the eclectic nature of my stories. I’m not willing to confine myself to a single genre. My reading tastes have always included most genres and I love writing what I read—basically everything. As always, there’s a story behind the story (of the name change in this case).
I had been thinking for a while that Fiction in 50 was longer an appropriate name for my newsletter, though I hadn’t thought about what I might change it to. As is so typical for me, the words Eclectic Ink popped into my head as I was going to sleep. I sat up and wrote them down, thinking they might evolve into a story. Instead, they started to make sense to me as a new name for Fiction in 50.
I sat with my feelings on this for a few months before I approached you, my readers about the new name. Thank you again for your input and support for this.
I’m waiting now for a new banner and logo for Eclectic Ink. Once I’ve received these, I’ll switch over to the new name and you’ll start to receive emails from a different URL. Don’t forget to check your spam folders if you don’t seem to be receiving it. I’m hoping there won’t be any glitches. Old links are supposed to still work with the name change. Fingers crossed! Please let me know if you notice any glitches.
I think it is a smart move. The old name was limiting. The new one is wide open.
I also changed mine, from Monday Morning Mark (which I turned into a section) to Mark Starlin Writes! Which I thought better represented what the newsletter was. I had no issues with links.
Congratulations on the new name, Dascha! (And for publishing two years on Substack!) I always look forward to reading your work.
