Kiana barely scraped through high school. Her teachers had labeled her lazy and slow early on. But she let it all wash off her back. She just wasn’t willing to let a cookie-cutter system try to force her into its mold like the rest of the sheep. Kiana knew her talents lay elsewhere.
She had started baking with her grandmother when she could barely walk, learning all Grammy’s secrets and going on to experiment on her own. Kiana’s parents’ kitchen often looked like a flour bomb had exploded all over it. They never cared, happily encouraging their daughter’s culinary pursuits.
If her math teachers could have seen how she dealt with fractions and multiplication as she altered existing recipes and created new ones, they would have been floored. Her Geography teachers would never have believed her knowledge of other countries and their cuisines. They only saw the girl who stared out the window when she was supposed to be paying attention in class.
And none of them knew that she was the owner of their go-to bakery, where they raved over her amazing cakes and confections. By the time Kiana graduated high school, her parents had both left their jobs to work for her. She owned two bakeries and had inked a book deal with a major publisher.
If her teachers had known all of this about Kiana, they might have wondered why she had bothered to finish high school at all. Kiana smiled at the thought. Her grandmother had held back one recipe from her. Sealed in an envelope, it waited with Grammy’s lawyer, the last piece of her estate to be distributed. Grammy had stipulated in her will that Kiana would receive the recipe for her favorite cake when she graduated high school.
This confection was baked with the words talent, cake, and sheep. I hope you enjoyed it!
Cute! I'm happy she followed her heart ❤️
I really enjoyed this one, Dascha. Kiana is a great character!
