I can't imagine a rat as a pet. Lol

Most people can't. I think it's partially because they think of wild rats, rather than fancy rats. As well, the tail puts a lot of people off. It did me! It wasn't until my eldest son was volunteering at a pet store where they carried the baby rats around with them to accustom them to being handled that I changed my mind. My son placed one in my hands and walked away, leaving me to "deal with it." Once I realized what sweet, gentle creatures they were, I was hooked.

I’ve heard they are very clean. You just have to stop thinking of them the way you think of wild rats 🐀 and think of them like a hamster or something 🤗

I used to keep them as pets. They're highly intelligent and very loving if you take the time to bond with them. They're much better pets than hamsters, which we also kept at one time. Hamsters tend to be much less invested in humans and they tend to bite which is rare with rats. I'll take a rat any day. For me, the drawback was their short lives.
