I have been reading The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu. I'm sorry to say I only made it half way through the book before I needed to return it to the library. Am back on the 'hold' list. I will be more committed to the second half so I don't need to request it a third time 😁

I read that book years ago for a science fiction book club. I honestly don't remember anything about it. What's the premise? That will probably jog my memory.

I have to confess I find it a bit complex? Confusing? It takes place in China and the characters become involved in a project that turns out to be a search for extraterrestrials. At the same time, they are playing a computer game called Three Body. I did not get far enough to understand how it ties together. Hopefully won't be too long until I get it back but there were 12 holds ahead of my new one.

I can't say I love it but I am curious about how they bring it together. More an academic read than for enjoyment.

I enjoyed the first books in that series. I think it was book 4 that felt so laborious that I put it down.

That’s amazing! I finished the first book in a day or two, so I’m happy to hear the good news about the second book. I think you’ll like Skyhunter!

I'm listening to Adrian Tchaikovsky's "Children if Time", which you recommended to me some time ago. I'm enthralled! I'm also reading Nancy Stohlman's book "Going Short An Invitation to Flash Fiction".

Children of Time us such a great book! I'm not familiar with the other. Is it useful for people who already write flash, do you think?

It’s a pretty good craft book for any writer I think. I’ve written a lot of flash fiction and flash non-fiction, but she has some different ways of approaching writing that I hadn’t heard before

That classics are the best for a reason! Not taking anything away from the new stuff, just not a big fantasy fan, sorry. 😁

I do love fantasy. But it's not a new genre. J.R.R Tolkien published The Hobbit in 1937.

I have so many books in my to be read pile. If I count those in my Kobo, more than 500. I figure I'll never be able to die because I have to finish my ever-growing list. 🤣

Well, that’s cool, but I’m reading something no one will care about because it’s old as all get out! It’s Sidney Shelton’s “The Best Laid Plans.” Before that one I read (also his) “Tell Me Your Dreams.” Both excellent! I got them from my parent’s bookshelves when I was cleaning out Dad’s house to sell. My mom had a voracious reading habit…guess where I got mine?😉

Actually that's awesome! I just finished re-reading The Chrysalids by John Wyndham. It's from 1955.
