I wonder if aliens might try to have a conversation with the creatures that are most prevalent on the planet. That would be the ones that engorge and disengorge lesser, more fragile life forms. They come, of course, in a variety of shapes and sizes with a variety of evolved capabilities from flying to rolling, from terraforming to redistributing. Yes, they have occasional disputes that often end disastrously for all concerned and there are times when they become terribly violent and the carnage is horrendous. But their caste based society does function well for the most part.
