I still do presents cause I love doing presents, birthdays and Christmas and just because! But we are lucky enough to still be able to gather, all together, for food and sharing and memory making, all 4 generations in one place for every celebration. And I agree. Those of us that have the opportunity to gather in love and fellowship as friends and family are truly blessed regardless of when or why we come together 💕

I think it's wonderful that presents are still meaningful to you. I think the excesses in which we engaged for decades is what poisoned the well for me. It's maybe a piece of magic lost. Though, I suppose I do gift those around me with baked goods. I have a loaf of Maritime brown bread waiting in my freezer for you!

Time with the family, sharing company over a nice meal, is far better than a pile of things. We stopped exchanging gifts years ago. We did get a few meaningful things for our son and his girlfriend and their new-ish home. It was things they needed and wanted. Their gift to us was a nice meal and a nicer visit. Anthony and I don’t need more stuff. Alexander did give me his refurbished old iPad because he knew I could use it for some illustrations I have coming up. He was going to give it to me anyway; it just happened to be Christmas. I think the whole festive gift-giving thing will happen if we ever have grandkids.

This was a nice, meaningful story you wrote. Thank you.

Thanks, Ana. You and Anthony fell much the same as I do about that.

The adults exchange names, so we are buying for one adult. Children receive gifts. We also post on line what our gift desire is, so it takes the pressure out of shopping for the perfect gift. The real gift is being together.

That's a great way to take the stress out of Christmas!

My wife and I haven’t bought Christmas presents for each other for years (sometimes I cheat and buy her one, like this year.) I think it a reasonable and welcome thing for long-married couples to do. I wouldn’t recommend it for newly married couples, though. 🤣 And we will always give presents to our kids and grandkids. There is too much joy in watching them open them for me to pass that up. 😀

I really do enjoy watching my grandchildren open gifts. My kids don't want them any more than I do. However , I did send my oldest son home yesterday with home baked bread, cookies, and, his favorite, peanut butter Rice Krispie squares.
