Rumplestiltskin? I'm sure I've misspelled that. King Midas? Regardless, I love this story. A wonderful message to start my day 🧚‍♀️🌈🦋🥰

Great story! The idea of the fae in disguise as an old beggar or otherwise distasteful creature is a fun archetype that turns up in some surprising places (It's in Star Wars at least 2x)

This story was obviously built from the same cloth as Dickens's A Christmas Carol. Both are based in the story archetype of rebirth.

This type of story stems from religion (think of the story of Christ's resurrection), though the archetype is used differently in stories like the one I wrote. In this case, rather than literal rebirth or resurrection, a character changes their behavior, being "reborn" as a better person.

Some notable examples of this are seen in Beauty and the Beast and Groundhog Day. (Of incidental interest is Bill Murray's starring roles in both the latter movie and Scrooged.)

There are several Grimms Fairy tales about greed and babies~ Rapunzel, Rumpelstiltskin

I finally figured out to set up my account so I could comment again. :-)

A Christmas Carol it sounds like to me. Beggar elf instead of the spirits. You could make a series out of beggar elf. Who does she go to next? Great story!

Scrooge! That’s my guess, but your story was really good too!
