Lucille Murray was generous to a fault. Moving to Rockfield from the big city in the middle of her senior year wasn’t ideal, but she decided to make the best of it.
Being the new kid in town always sucked. This late in the game it would be worse. Everyone’s minds were on what college they would be going to in the fall and friendships had long ago been cemented.
But Lucille, never one to be daunted, took up the challenge forcefully. She invited the entire graduating class to a Christmas party on her parents’ new farm, complete with a skating rink her dad created. It took him a week to make it perfect. It was worth it.
Her classmates came out of curiosity—to check out the new girl. They stayed because she had thrown the biggest, best party the teens in this small town had ever experienced, with music blasting, colored floodlights, and hot chocolate to die for.
By the end of the night, Lucille had made three best friends, two frenemies, and a date with the high school quarterback. What she didn’t realize was that she had also made a major mistake by hooking up with the head cheerleader’s boyfriend. She spent the rest of the year regretting it.
I don’t remember what prompted this BMAC story. I’d like to think that Lucille managed to keep at least some of the friends she made at the party, and that she and the head cheerleader eventually sorted things out.
Teenage angst. I lived next door to the school heart throb in grade 9 and we often walked home together. The girl gang, literally, that liked him decided that meant something and made my life miserable. Glad when they outgrew it. So, I know what happened here. And it made her stronger and more independent and much smarter about human nature. Luckily she was in grade 12 so her agony was short-lived.
You're going to leave me hanging like that?!? Okay, I'll accept the mystery 😁
