In Canada, we have a generous student loan program. However, some people fall between the cracks. I knew someone whose parents were too well off for them to qualify for a loan. They refused to pay the tuition. I don’t know if that person ever made it to university. I hope they did.
Just as primary and secondary school became free in the 19th and 20th centuries, so university should become free in the 21st century. Society must ensure that those who are capable of great things are given the opportunity to accomplish them.
College is ridiculously expensive in the US. And it certainly doesn't guarantee a job. Too many are saddled with overwhelming student debt.
