Wow!! A powerful imagery drawn with your words. I loved it!

Thanks, Laura. You might want to peek at my response to Jason. You, of all people, know how varied my writing (and writing voice) is (because you read everything eventually).

Great story! I loved the flow of the language you used to describe Giselle's ascension/transformation.

Thanks, Jason. It's funny how the story dictates the language for me. Editors often talk about an author's "voice." I don't seem to have a single voice. Rather, my voice seems to modulate itself to the demands of the story. Eclectic writer, eclectic voice?

Loved this, Dascha. I’m with you - some contest fees are absolutely ridiculous! I haven’t submitted a single story for publication within the past six months. I’m perfectly content writing and publishing here on Substack!

For me, the problem with literary magazine publication is that it doesn't usually help move a career forward. They have small audiences, you can't make a living on what most mags pay, and they disappear so fast! I like building my own audience here and through indie publishing. I get to keep my copyrights and publish my work faster. I also love the connections I've made on Substack!

Jason, somehow I didn't see either of your replies until today! My apologies. I agree with you completely. I also love that I am now able to create a synergy amongst the images I'm creating, my stories, and my Redbubble shop. Most of all, like you, I love the connections I've made here (and those I've maintained since moving over from Medium).

No worries! We’re all slammed with alerts and notifications these days. I don’t sweat that stuff. I know we’re friends and that’s all the dopamine hit I need

It makes far more sense to me! And thank you, Justin!
