We seem to have come to view a visit from an alien ship with beams of light projecting down to the earth as something negative. Science fiction, conspiracy theories, watching too much Twilight Zone as a child, whatever. To have this image turned into a story of benevolence is wonderful!! It stills warms my heart.
It's easy to go with the abduction theme, but it's been so overworked. Finding something a little different to write made what could have been trite a more positive story.
