Coleta dropped in on the Halloween party despite not having been invited. She simply loved costume parties. With her filmy black outfit, she looked every inch the vampire. Well, absent the fangs. They were gauche, best left to lesser women.
She accepted a glass of wine from a passing waiter, appreciating his appreciation of her. She wandered through the gathered partygoers, feeling the eyes of the men, as well as a few women, as she passed. Which would she choose tonight?
She turned as the sensation of a particularly intense gaze bore into her back. A stunningly gorgeous man stared at her from across the room. He too was dressed as a vampire. When he smiled, she saw he had gone for fangs, though they seemed to have been put on with care. Deciding to give him a pass on that, she smiled back.
Neither in a hurry, they worked their way toward one another, mingling with other guests, until they found themselves face to face.
“Your glass is empty,” the man said, his hazel eyes devouring her.
“So is yours.” Coleta returned his gaze, liking what she saw. “But why don’t we find somewhere to have a more private drink.” The smile she gave him left no doubt of her true meaning.
“Well,” the man answered, moving closer, “at least, let’s share names first. I’m Elliot.”
“Elliot. Nice name. I’m Coleta.”
Eliot took her glass and handed it, along with his own, to a passing server. Placing a hand on her lower back, he guided her through the crowd and out onto the street, where he hailed a cab. He gave the driver a private address. No side trip to a bar, then.
Coleta snuggled close in the cab, allowing Elliot a light kiss or two, the promise of more hanging between them as she slipped a hand onto his knee, and then slid it upward along his thigh. Not too high, but she felt him shiver beneath her touch.
Elliot’s apartment was as perfectly put together as he was. Masculine, but not overbearing. Rich, but not ostentatious. He poured wine, which they both ignored. He kissed her, gently at first, then asking, and finally demanding more. She thrilled at his touch.
Elliot pulled away, his eyes smoldering with lust. Coleta wrapped a hand around the back of his neck, pulled him to her and licked the skin right above his carotid artery. She kissed, and then nibbled. He groaned, then pulled away again.
“Coleta…”
Something changed in Elliot’s face, his eyes darkening almost to black. Coleta tried to pull away, instinct screaming at her to flee. Elliot took hold of her in an iron grip. He brought his lips to her skin licking as she had licked, then plunged his teeth into her neck.
This was a fun Halloween story to write. It was obvious from the beginning that Coleta was a vampire…or was it? Did you think so and did the twist take you by surprise? Happy Halloween week!
I thought she was a vampire after the second paragraph and then questioned whether or not he was the remainder of the story. The ending still surprised me, though! Great job, Dascha!
I thought she wasn't and he was. I, too, liked the opening line!
