I've never joined it. And, when I read comments or articles about what can be posted, I've never been inspired to try it. Luckily, I have no reason to bother with the frustration.

I would love to have promotion take care of itself but alas...

I get that.

I begrudgingly joined Twitter about two years ago, because “that’s what writers do.” Like most social media, it is a time waster. And I think Twitter has the most convoluted interface of any social media. It really is hard to follow anything on Twitter.

You can make Lists of you favorites and check those. The main Twitter feed is like Facebook. Full of rants and negativity that it don’t need in my life. Not to mention those ridiculous “writers lifts” and the same writer questions that get asked a million times. I only pop in occasionally. I don’t find much worth my time. Although some really enjoy it. They must see something I don’t. 🤓

Mark, I'm sorry to be late replying. It seems that Substack has stopped sending me both copies of my posts when they publish and notifications of comments.

I find Twitter to be largely a waste of time as well. I've figured out how to get at least some notifications for people whose posts I really want to read. I don't scroll through the mess that Twitter insists on putting into my feed at all.

Ugh. I hope Substack gets it fixed for you soon.

I have an Instagram, FB, and Twitter. I rarely use Instagram, but I enjoy it, I suppose. I reactivated my FB a couple weeks ago, but I’m realizing I didn’t miss it. 🤣

I find Twitter to be the most engaging and most meaningful platform for me personally. I like connecting with other writers and tweeting my thoughts sometimes. I tend to crack a few smiles and have a good laugh while on it, so it’s a pretty good indicator that I’ll keep using it. I do find that tweets gets buried (both my own and those who I follow) but I try not to worry too much about it.

I enjoyed your story, by the way! 😀

Thanks, Justin. I only look at tweets that show up in my notifications. I do read those and respond to them. It makes Twitter manageable for me.

Makes sense to me! I do hear where you’re coming from. Social media in general gets overwhelming all around at times.

I don’t use Twitter, but I occasionally use FB, Insta, Reddit, Nextdoor-but FB frustrated me for the same reason and more, so I rarely check in anymore.

It's undoubtedly healthier to take space from the "noise" of social media.

I've never used Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, tumblr, or most of the mainstream social media apps. I'm still active on Ello (and run a writing community there ... sort of) and Vero. I was on G+ till it died, then on Okuna till it died. (It is relaunching as Somus soon, but I dunno if I'll be there or not.) I recently joined Tiktok 😄 more or less at Kyle Rutkin's suggestion and thoughts on Booktok. I've flirted with the idea of Twitter for let's see 🤔 ... seven years? But something keeps me from joining. I don't have as clear a moral objection to it as I do the Zuckerberg-owned properties. I just don't seem to be able to jump in.

It sounds like you have your own platforms. I don't think you're missing anything by not being on Twitter!

Seems like it's useful for meeting people?
